Files kept by James Deegan, associate dean and director of the Office of Assessment and Research, later the Office of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction. Consisting mainly of correspondence, memos, background materials, and reports, the files cover such topics as administrative organization, human services, faculty retreats, workshops and seminars, grading, the Higher Education Coordinating Board, students, reports and surveys, and the state of MSU.

There are also memos, speeches, and statements of President David E. Sweet (1972-1977), research report of a task force on educational technology (1973), accreditation reports (1975) , monthly reports to the vice-president of academic affairs (1975-1977), and minutes of meetings of the academic affairs administrative officers (1975, 1977- 1078) , assessment office staff (1976-1977), arts and science conference (1976), coordinating conference (1976- 1977), and support staff (1978) .
